To answer your question, there is no release date timeline for lightning but the development continues to make updates. Actually very recently(June 29!) our dev Spas succesfully compiled lnd 0.6.1 for btg test net and opened a channel. This is a significant achievement! Since lightning development started the dev team has been porting various libraries to help better support software working with lnd and with all that hard work and figuring out things, the new build is working!
